United States: Several killed in a shooting inside a Maryland plant

A little over two weeks after the killing of the school in Uvalde, Texas, which killed 21 people, including 19 children, on May 24, armed violence affects the United States again. An unidentified gunman opened fire inside a factory in Smithburg, West Maryland, on Thursday afternoon, killing several people, according to local authorities.

Three people were killed and two were injured, according to a Washington County Sheriff’s report. One of the injured was a member of the police force, who was hit in the shoulder in an exchange of gunfire with the assailant.

The suspect was shot

The attack took place around 2:30 p.m. local time, according to NBC News. The suspect, who was shot dead in a confrontation with Maryland State Police, according to the sheriff’s office, has been hospitalized, but his health is uncertain at this time.

“The situation is changing rapidly and we will post information as soon as we can,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement on Facebook. The crime scene remains active, a police official told CNN, but said there was no longer any threat to the surrounding community.
