If you cannot send or receive messages on iPhone, below are the troubleshooting steps and fix the iPhone won’t send or receive messages issue.

When sending messages from iPhone to other Apple device users, Apple uses its own iCloud network to deliver the message in the form of a free iMessage (blue bubbles).

However, if your contact is using an Android device, the iPhone will send the message as an SMS text message over your carrier’s network.

This dual routing of messages occurs both when sending and receiving messages on iPhone and this can sometimes cause problems.

Messaging problems on iPhone can also be caused by network connectivity issues, accidentally blocked phone numbers and various other reasons.

1. Check WiFi and mobile network connectivity

iPhone can send iMessages to other Apple device users over both Wi-Fi and cellular networks. However, when it comes to SMS text messaging, the iPhone needs to be connected to your service provider’s cellular network.

So, if you are having trouble sending text messages to Android device users, go to settings > cellular > make sure cellular data activated.

If only one Wi-Fi network is available on iPhone, it can only send iMessages to other Apple device users.

2. Make sure MMS is turned on

If you can’t send a message with an attachment (photo, video, or document), go to settings > Messages and move the switch next to MMS messages to the ON position.

If you can’t send a group message, slide the switch next to group messages to ON Position.

Note: If you can’t find MMS messaging and group messaging settings on your iPhone, these features may not be available in your service plan.

3. Check the iMessage service status

If your iPhone can send SMS text messages but not iMessages to other Apple device users, the problem could be that Apple’s iMessage service is down or having problems.

If there is a problem, you will see an error message next to the iMessage entry and the dot will appear next to iMessage Red.

4. Check blocked numbers

If your iPhone isn’t receiving messages from a specific contact, go to settings > Messages > Blocked Contacts.

On the next screen, see if your contact’s number is listed. If it’s listed, swipe left on it phone number and tap unlock.

5. Reboot the iPhone

Sometimes the problem can be due to stuck programs and processes that are preventing the Messages app from working properly.

Go to settings > General > scroll down and tap shut down. On the next screen, use the slider drive OUT iPhone.

Let the iPhone turn off completely > Wait 30 seconds > Start anew your device and see if you can send messages now.

6. Check the send/receive settings

Go to settings > Messages > Send receive > Make sure both your Apple ID email address and phone number are listed.

Apple uses the Apple ID to send and receive iMessages. Therefore, it is required that your Apple ID is listed in the “You can be reached by iMessage at” section in addition to the phone number.

7. Check the time and date settings

Go to settings > General > appointment time > Activate Set automatically option and make sure the iPhone is showing the correct one time zone.

8. Remove and reinsert the SIM card

The problem can be due to the SIM card on your iPhone being moved, faulty or damaged. Remove the to confirm SIM card from your iPhone and check the SIM card for visible damage.

If you don’t find any signs of damage, put them back in place SIM card back into your iPhone and check if the issue is resolved now.

9. Sign in/out of Apple ID

Sometimes the problem is because your Apple ID is not recognized by Apple servers.

Open settings > Tap yours AppleID > On the next screen, scroll down and tap Deliver Possibility.

After signing out completely, wait 30 seconds, sign in to your Apple ID again and see if the issue is now resolved.

10. Reset network settings

If the above methods didn’t help, the problem could be due to the network settings on your iPhone being corrupt or corrupt.

Go to settings > General > Reset to default > select Reset network settings Possibility.

After iPhone restarts, reconnect to the WiFi network by entering your WiFi network password. and see if the issue is resolved now.
