The issue of Skype not opening or not responding in Windows 10 is usually reported after an update. Below are the steps to fix this problem on your computer.

Sometimes the Skype app doesn’t open at all or stops responding abruptly while making an audio or video call.

Although this problem occurs more frequently after an update, it can also occur at any other time due to network issues and other reasons.

Before proceeding with the troubleshooting steps below, make sure your internet connection is working.

1. Allow apps to access microphone and camera

First, make sure apps on your computer are allowed to access the microphone and camera.

1. Go to settings > privacy > select camera in the left pane and activate Allow apps to access your camera Possibility.

2. Next, select microphone in the left pane and activate Allow apps to access the camera hardware Possibility.

Next, make sure Skype has permission to access the camera and microphone on your computer.

1. Go to settings > privacy > select camera in the left pane. In the right pane, scroll down to the “Choose which apps can access your camera” section and toggle ON the slider next to it camera.

2. On the same screen, scroll further down and move the slider next to Skype to ON Position.

3. Next, select microphone in the left pane. In the right pane, scroll down to the Allow apps to access your microphone section and move the switch next to Skype to ON Position.

Restart your computer and see if Skype is working now.

3. Repair Skype app

Sometimes the Skype app can get corrupted and this can be fixed using the Repair App option available in Windows 10.

1. Go to settings > applications > click Apps & Features in the left pane. In the right pane, scroll down and click Skype > Expanded options.

2. On the next screen, scroll down and click repair Button.

Restart your computer and check if Skype is working on your computer now.

4. Reset Skype

If the repair option didn’t work, you can reset the Skype app. This will basically remove and reinstall Skype on your computer.

1. Go to settings > applications > click Apps & Features in the left pane. In the right pane, scroll down and click Skype > Expanded options.

2. On the next screen, click the Reset to default Button.

3. Click on the confirmation popup Reset to default confirm.

Restart your computer and check if Skype is working on your computer now.

5. Reset network configuration

Sometimes network-related issues can prevent Skype from working properly. So, run the following commands to fix network related issues on your computer.

1. Open Command Prompt > type ipconfig /release and press Enter.

This will reveal your computer’s current IP address.

2. Enter next ipconfig /renew and press the Enter key to renew your computer’s IP address.

Also walk reset netsh winsock, netsh int ip reset, ipconfig /flushdns and ipconfig /registerdns commands.

3. Close the command prompt window and restart your computer.

After the computer restarts, open Skype and see if it is now working properly on your computer.

6. Check firewall blocking

It’s possible that the Windows Defender Firewall or the firewall of the antivirus software program installed on your computer is blocking Skype.

If you are using Norton or another antivirus program, you will need to go into the antivirus program’s firewall settings to unblock Skype.
