On the occasion of the third day of League A of the League of Nations, Portugal hosted the Czech Republic. With a draw and a win in the first two games, Cristiano Ronaldo’s teammates wanted to chain to fly to the top of their group. For this match, CR7 was obviously a starter in a very offensive Portuguese team with Diogo Jota, Bernardo Silva and the former Parisian Gonçalo Guedes in particular. And this time the Portuguese responded present and in a very nice way.
After a fairly balanced first quarter of an hour of play, Portugal gently but surely set foot on the ball. If it took a very nice save from Diogo Costa in front of Kuchta to keep the score level (31st), Fernando Santos’ side ended up taking the lead thanks to a magnificent goal from João Cancelo. After a fine move down the middle Bernardo Silva nearly gave the home side a goal after 29 minutes. However the finishing shot went just wide. Surprised, the Czech goalkeeper could do nothing (1-0, 33rd). A few minutes later, it was the former PSG Guedes who made the break thanks once again to Bernardo Silva (2-0, 38th). With the return of the locker rooms, Portugal managed its lead without lowering its intensity. Enough not to be surprised and take the lead in his group.
Spain is a first success
In the other group meeting, Spain traveled to Switzerland. And in this match, it was another former Parisian (he was on loan at Sporting CP this season) who found the nets. At the beginning of the game, La Roja took the lead thanks to Pablo Sarabia. The midfielder was at the conclusion of a beautiful Spanish action (13th, 1-0). Enough to take all three points as the score did not move and Spain quietly managed the match afterwards to enjoy their first success in this edition of the League of Nations. In the standings, the Spanish team remains second just behind Portugal.
Finally, in the other matches of the evening, Erling Haaland’s Norway was held in check by Slovenia in Group B. Sweden, on the other hand, lost at home to Serbia. Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic scored the only goal of the match. Finally in Group C, note the beautiful victory of Greece (3-0) or Kosovo against Northern Ireland (3-2).
