Microphone not working in Microsoft Teams
The microphone not working issue is known to occur in both laptops with built-in microphones and desktop computers that use an external microphone.
For desktop computers with a microphone, the problem is usually that the camera is not automatically selected by the Teams app.
Other reasons for this problem range from microphone access to blocked apps in Windows privacy panel to other configuration issues.
1. Choose your speaker in Microsoft Teams
Make sure your camera is selected or available for selection in Microsoft Teams.
Open Microsoft Teamsclick yours profile icon and select settings in the drop down menu.
On the Teams Settings screen, select the Devices tab in the left pane. In the right pane, use the drop down menu to select yours microphone.
If the microphone is not listed on this screen, it is either not recognized or has been disabled in the privacy settings on your computer.
2. Fix sound problems
Right click on the speaker icon in the taskbar and select fix sound problems Possibility.
If prompted, enter your admin password and allow Windows to find and fix the problem on your computer.
3. Check microphone access in privacy settings
Go to settings > privacy > Scroll down the left pane and click microphone. In the right pane, make sure the microphone has access to your computer.
If microphone access is disabled, click change and allow the microphone access to your computer.
4. Allow apps to access the microphone in privacy settings
Go to settings > privacy > select microphone in the left pane. Make sure in the right pane Allow apps to access your microphone is switched ON.
On the same screen, scroll down and make sure Allow desktop apps to access your microphone option is switched ON.
Restart Microsoft Teams and see if the microphone is working now.
5. Activate the microphone with the sound settings
Right click on the speaker icon in the taskbar and select Open the sound settings Possibility.
On the next screen, scroll down to in the right pane Entry section and make sure your microphone is listed in the “Choose your input device” section. If your Microsoft is not listed, click Manage audio devices Possibility.
On the next screen, your microphone should be listed as disabled in the Input Devices section. Click on the disabled ones microphone and click Enable.
This allows your computer to use the microphone as a recording device for Microsoft Teams and other apps. To confirm, go back to the sound settings page and speak into your microphone.
If the microphone is working, you will see the bar move in the Test Microphone section.
6. Enable the microphone via the control panel
In certain cases you may need to enable the microphone through the Control Panel.
Open Control Panel > navigate to Hardware & Sound > Manage audio devices.
Switch to in the popup recording and check if your microphone is activated. If it’s disabled, right-click on it microphone and click Enable.
After that, the microphone should be available for selection in the Teams app.
7. Allow applications to control the sound
Right click on the speaker icon in the taskbar and click Sounds.
Switch to on the next screen recording tab and double-click yours Microphone.
On the Microphone Properties screen, go to Progressive tab and make sure Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device option is selected.
Click Apply and OK to save this setting.
Restart your computer and see if the issue of Skype audio not working on your computer is resolved.
8. Allow media access for apps in Microsoft Teams
Open Microsoft Teams settings > select Permissions tab in the left pane. Turn on in the right pane Media (Camera, Microphone, Speakers) Possibility.
This allows apps you add as tabs in Teams to access the microphone on your computer.
