The number of cases of monkeypox infection has increased in France: 33 contaminations have been detected in the country. While most of these cases are grouped in the Ile-de-France region (24), four cases of infection have been detected in Occitania.
Monkeypox is gaining ground in the Hexagon. Health authorities have detected new cases of infections in France. As of June 1, there are a total of 33 cases of Monkeypox contamination in the country: that’s 16 more cases within two days, as shown in the chart below (If no graphics are visible, please disable your ad blocker).
These cases of infection are unevenly distributed throughout the country. The vast majority of cases of infection have been identified in Ile-de-France: there are 24 in total. Occitania is the second most affected region in France, with 4 infections.
In addition, at least 600 cases have so far been detected in 30 different countries. The World Health Organization (WHO) has looked into these new infections, described a “case outbreak” and suspected “undetected transmission”.
Public Health France is also surprised by unsuspected modes of transmission of the disease: “To date, in Europe, these cases have occurred mainly, but not exclusively, in men who have sex with men (MSM), unrelated direct with people returning from an endemic area, “said the health authorities in their situation.
