How to use Signal Messenger without a phone number or SIM

It is possible to use Signal without revealing your phone number and to use Signal on an iPhone or Android phone without an active SIM card using two methods given below.

Use Signal Messenger without a phone number or SIM card

Just like WhatsApp and other VOIP apps, Signal Private Messenger verifies its users by sending a six-digit verification code to your phone number.

Therefore, a working phone number that can receive text messages, phone calls, or both is required to get your free Signal Private Messenger account.

To meet this requirement, you can use Google Voice free phone number or Skype paid phone number. If you live outside of the US, you can try the second method as given below.

Note: If you’ve already verified Signal, delete your current number from Signal by uninstalling and reinstalling the app on your phone.

1. Check signal with Google Voice, Skype, TextNow

This method involves using Google Voice or TextNow phone number to verify your Signal account and only works if you live in the United States.

Step 1. Get Google Voice phone number

Both Google Voice and Skype offer phone numbers that can receive text messages within the United States. While Google Voice is free to use, Skype charges a monthly fee.

All that is required to get a free Google Voice phone number is sign up Google Voice through your Gmail account. Likewise, you can sign up for a Skype account using your Microsoft account.

Another option is to place an order TextNow SIM activation kit and use the TextNow phone number to complete the signal verification process.

Step 2. Download and install Signal Private Messenger

Download Signal private messengers App on your Android phone from Google Play Store. If you are using an iPhone, download the app from the App Store.

Follow the instructions to install Signal and give the app permission to access your contacts and send you notifications.

Step 3. Check the signal with Google Voice phone number

Select on the next screen country > Enter Google Voice phone number and tap Next to get a 6-digit verification code for that phone number.

Note: As mentioned above, you can also use the Skype or SIM-enabled TextNow phone number.

Once your Google Voice phone number is verified, you can use Signal on your phone, even if it doesn’t have its own phone number and working SIM card.

2. Check the signal with the landline phone number

While it’s possible to get a Google Voice phone number from outside the United States, we’re not sure if it can be used to verify Signal’s account.

In our tests, we couldn’t verify Signal with the TextNow free phone number. Therefore, the only option that might work in your area is to use your landline phone number to verify the Signal account.

Step 1. Download and install Signal Private Messenger

Download Signal private messengers App on your Android phone from Google Play Store. If you are using an iPhone, download the app from the App Store.

Follow the instructions to install Signal and give the app permission to access your contacts and send you notifications.

Step 2. Check the signal with the landline phone number

Select on the next screen country > Enter yours landline phone number and tap Next.

On the next screen, wait 60 seconds and tap I didn’t get a code.

Select from the pop-up menu call me instead option and wait for Signal to send an automated call to your landline number.

Receive the call on your landline > Make a note of your six-digit security code and enter it code to verify your phone number.

Once your landline phone number is verified, you can use Signal on your iPhone or Android phone, even if it doesn’t have its own phone number or SIM card.
