How to share photos in Google Photos app

With the Google Photos app, you can create shared albums that you can use to share photos with your family and friends. Let’s take a look at how to create shared albums in Google Photos and share photos with others.

Share photos in the Google Photos app

The photo album sharing feature in the Google Photos app can be used in a number of ways. For example, let’s say you’re going on vacation or picnicking with your family and friends. Of course, you and other members of the party will be taking photos with their individual cameras.

After you return from your trip, you can upload your photos to a Google Photos shared album and invite others to upload their photos to this Google Photos shared album. This way everyone can see the photos taken by everyone during your group tour.

The process of sharing photos in Google Photos app can be divided into the following main tasks.

1. Install the Google Photos app on your iPhone or Android phone

2. Create a shared album in Google Photos and add photos

3. Invite family and friends to the shared album

1. Install the Google Photos app

If you don’t already have the Google Photos app installed on your iPhone or Android phone, you can do so now from the following locations.

1. You can download the Google Photos app for Android phones from the Google Play Store

2. You can download the Google Photos app for iOS devices from the App Store

After downloading and installing the appropriate Google Photos app on your device, you can proceed to the next step of creating a shared album in Google Photos.

2. Create a shared album in Google Photos

After you have downloaded and installed the Google Photos app, the next step is to create a shared album in Google Photos using the following steps.

1. Open google photos App on your iPhone or Android phone.

2. Next, tap the 3 points icon in the top-right corner of your screen, and then tap shared album, in the displayed menu (see figure below).

3. Once you tap Shared Album, Google Photos will prompt you to start selecting photos for your shared album.

4. Choose photos you want to share with others by tapping it. When you’re done selecting photos, tap Next Link is located in the top right corner of your screen (see image below).

5. Wait for Google Photos to upload the selected photos to the shared album.

6. Next, enter an appropriate one Surname for the shared album and tap X Icon to save the shared album as shown below.

We’ve named the album Shared Album, but you can name it anything that suits its purpose or better describes your shared album.

3. Invite family and friends to a shared album

Now that you have created a shared album in Google Photos, the next step is to configure the sharing options and invite others to the shared album.

1. Open google photos App on your iPhone or Android phone

2. Next, tap the albums Tab at the bottom of your screen (if you’re not already in Albums view)

3. On the next screen you will see all your albums in Google Photos. Tap the Shared Album that you just created.

4. Next, tap the 3 points Menu icon in the upper-right corner of your screen, then tap sharing options in the displayed menu (see figure below).

5. On the Sharing Options screen, see the options share albumCopy link and collaborate.

Share album: If you turn on the Share Album option, anyone who has a link to your shared album can see all the photos placed in the shared album, as well as anyone you’ve invited to the album.

Collaborate: If you enable this option, anyone who has a shared album link can upload photos and videos to your shared album

Copy link: Tapping the “Copy Link” option will copy the shared album link to the clipboard so you can paste this link into email, messages or other apps and send it to others.

After configuring the sharing options, you can either tap copy link option and send the link to others or tap back arrow and return to the main screen (see image above)

6. If you have returned to the main screen, tap share icon is near the top-right corner of your screen.

7. Tapping the Share icon will open different sharing options – WhatsApp, Messages app, Email, Facebook and others.

Just tap the sharing option that works best for you and follow the prompts to invite your family and friends to the shared album.

Share existing album in Google Photos

There is no need to create a shared album from scratch to share photos in Google Photos. You can also share an album that already exists in Google Photos by following the steps below.

1. Open the Google Photos app on your iPhone or Android phone

2. Next, tap the albums Tab at the bottom of your screen (if you’re not already in Albums view)

3. On the next screen you will see all your albums, tap album that you want to share with your family and friends.

4. Next, tap the 3 dot icon is in the top-right corner of your screen, and then tap sharing options in the appearing menu (see picture below)

5. On the next screen, enable sharing options by sliding the switch next to share album to ON Position (see picture below)

If you want, you can allow others to upload photos to your shared album by checking the option collaborate (See picture above)

6. After configuring the sharing options as needed, you can tap copy link option and send the link to your shared album to anyone you want to share photos with.
