How to Reset Screen Time Passcode on iPhone and iPad

If you forgot Screen Time passcode, you cannot access locked apps and services on your iPhone. Below are the steps to reset Screen Time passcode on iPhone.

Reset Screen Time passcode on iPhone or iPad

The process to reset Screen Time passcode on iPhone and iPad varies depending on the version of iOS operating system running on your device.

If your iPhone is running iOS 13.4 and later versions, you can easily reset the Screen Time passcode on your device using your Apple ID and password.

If your iPhone is running an older version of iOS (iOS 12 and earlier) and is not eligible for iOS 13.4 update, the only way to reset Screen Time passcode is to use third-party tools (as given below) .

1. Reset Screen Time Passcode with Apple ID (iOS 13.4 and later)

Follow the steps below to reset Screen Time passcode if your device is running iOS 13.4 and later versions.

1. Go to settings > screen time > Change Screen Time passcode.

2. Select in the popup Disable Screen Time passcode Option > On the Disable Passcode screen, tap On. Forgot passcode?

3. On the next screen, enter yours AppleID, password and tap OK.

The above steps will completely remove Screen Time passcode from your device. After that, you can either continue using Screen Time without a password or scroll down and tap Turn off Screen Time Possibility.

2. Reset Screen Time passcode with third-party tools

As mentioned above, you cannot reset Screen Time passcode using Apple ID on older devices (iOS12 and below).

The only way to reset Screen Time passcode on older devices is to use third-party tools such as decrypt backupwhich can actually restore your original Screen Time passcode from an iPhone backup.

The method to reset Screen Time passcode using Decipher Backup includes the following 3 steps.

1. Backup iPhone to PC or Mac
2. Download and install the Decipher Backup Browser Tool on your computer
3. Recover Screen Time passcode using Decipher Backup

While Decipher Backup is available for both Windows and Mac computers, it is easy to download and install on a Windows computer.

In the case of Mac, you need to take an extra step to grant Decipher Backup access to iOS backups on your Mac.

Step #1 – Create an encrypted backup of iPhone to PC or Mac

The first step is to create an encrypted backup of iPhone on your PC or Mac.

1. Connect iPhone to the USB port of computer.

2. Open iTunes on your computer and click the iPhone icon as it appears on your computer screen.

Note: On a Mac, open the finder and click yours iPhone in the side menu.

3. Then click on the Summary tab > Scroll down to the Backups section, select This computercheck over Encrypt iPhone backup option and click Secure now Button.

Note: You will be prompted to set up a password for your encrypted backup file. Be sure to write this password for use in the next steps.

4. Wait for iTunes to backup iPhone to your computer. The time to complete the backup depends on the amount of data available on your iPhone.

Step #2 – Download and install Decipher Backup on the computer

The next step is to download and install Decipher Backup Browser on your PC or Mac.

1. Download the free version of Decrypt Backup Browser on your computer.

2. Once the file is downloaded, double click on it DecipherBackupBrowser.exe File to install Decipher Backup on your computer.

Note: Drag on Mac DecipherBackupBrowser.dmg File to the Applications folder and follow the instructions on the Getting Started screen to grant access to the Decipher Backup Tool.

Step 3 – Recover Screen Time passcode using Decipher Backup Tool

1. Open decrypt backup on your computer and it will automatically search and list all iPhone backups available on your computer.

2. In the list of backups, click your current one Encrypted iPhone backup.

3. In the next pop-up window, enter the password required to access your encrypted iPhone backup and click OK.

4. Decipher Backup will start scanning your iPhone backup and listing its contents. Scroll down the list and click Screen Time Passcode folder.

5. Clicked once Screen Time PasscodeDecipher Backup will scan this folder and display your Screen Time passcode (see image above).

After recovering your Screen Time passcode, you can disable, change, or continue using the same Screen Time passcode.
