How to Recover Permanently Deleted Photos from iPhone

The only way to recover permanently deleted photos from iPhone is to restore your device using an iCloud backup or a backup of iPhone stored on your computer.

When you delete photos from iPhone, the deleted photos are simply moved to the Recently Deleted folder in the Photos app and remain there for a period of 30 days.

After 30 days, the deleted photos will be automatically removed from Recently Deleted folder and permanently deleted from iPhone.

If the photos were deleted some time ago (more than 30 days), they can only be recovered from iCloud backup or iPhone backup stored on computer (Mac or PC).

1. Recover Recently Deleted Photos from iPhone

If the photos were recently deleted (within the last 30 days), they should still be available on your device in the Recently Deleted Photos album.

1. Open Photos app on your iPhone and tap the albums tab in the bottom menu.

2. On the Albums screen, scroll down to Other Albums and tap Recently deleted.

3. Once in Recently Deleted Photos, tap Choose Option is in the top right corner.

On the iPhone, select the “Recently Deleted Photos” option.

4. Next select the photos you want to restore by tapping on it and tapping recovered option in the bottom menu.

All selected photos will be restored and moved back to the photo album from which they were originally deleted.

2. Recover permanently deleted photos from iPhone using iCloud

Go to settings > Tap yours AppleID > iCloud > iCloud backup and check the iCloud backup date.

If the backup was made before deleting photos, it should contain deleted photos and you can recover them by wiping all current data on your iPhone and restoring your device from this iCloud backup.

1. Go to settings > General > Reset to default > tap Erase all content and settings Possibility.

2. Tap on the confirmation pop-up Delete Iphone confirm.

3. Wait until all data is erased. During this time, your iPhone will restart several times.

4. After the data is erased, you will see your iPhone starting with the Welcome or Hello screen.

5. Follow the onscreen instructions until you reach the Apps & Data screen.

6. On the Apps & Data screen, tap Restore from iCloud backup Possibility.

If prompted, enter yours AppleID and password to sign in to your iCloud account.

7. On the next screen, select the iCloud backup with deleted photos.

After iPhone is restored, you should be able to find deleted photos back on your device.

3. Recover permanently deleted photos using backup stored on Mac

If you have downloaded iPhone backup to Mac (before deleting photos), you can follow the steps below to recover permanently deleted photos.

1. Connect iPhone to Mac with the supplied cable.

2. If prompted, unlock the iPhone by going to the lock screen password.

3. Then click on the Finder icon located in the taskbar on your Mac.

4. From the Finder screen, select yours iPhone in the left pane. In the right pane, scroll down to the Backups section and click Restore Backup Button.

5. In the pop-up window, select the iPhone backup as available on your Mac and click the Restore Button.

Note: If the iPhone backup file is encrypted on your Mac, you need to enter it password to access encrypted files.

6. Wait for the restore process to complete.

Once the iPhone is restored, you should find all the deleted photos back on your device.

4. Recover permanently deleted photos using backup saved on PC

If you downloaded an iPhone backup to Windows PC, you can follow the steps below to recover deleted photos back to your iPhone.

Note: You need to turn off Find My iPhone to restore iPhone from an existing iTunes backup.

1. Open iTunes on your Windows computer.

2. Connect iPhone to Windows computer with the supplied cable.

3. Then click on the phone Icon as it appears in iTunes on your computer screen.

4. On the next screen, click the summary tab in the left pane. In the right pane, click Restore Backup Button under the Manual Backup and Restore section.

5. In the pop-up window, select the iTunes backup located on your computer and click on the Restore Button.

6. Wait for the restore process to complete.
