How to Recover Deleted Contacts on iPhone

If you accidentally deleted contacts from iPhone or lost contacts due to other reasons, below are several methods to recover deleted contacts on iPhone.

Accidental deletion of single or multiple contacts from iPhone is a common incident reported by many iPhone users.

In addition to accidental deletion, users have also reported missing contacts on iPhone after installing an update and various other reasons.

Regardless of the reason, it is possible to recover deleted contacts on iPhone by re-syncing iCloud contacts, restoring iPhone from iCloud backup, and also restoring iPhone from backup stored on computer.

1. Merge iCloud contacts to iPhone

If the contacts were recently deleted from iPhone, the deleted contacts are probably still available in iCloud and can be recovered.

Go to settings > Apple ID name > iCloud > Move the switch next to contacts to OUT Position.

After that, enable iCloud contacts on your device again by moving it contacts switch to ON Position. In the popup, select the merge Possibility.

2. Recover deleted contacts from iCloud backup

If your iPhone is set to automatically back up its data to iCloud, you should be able to restore deleted contacts from your iPhone’s backup as available in iCloud.

Go to settings > AppleID > iCloud > iCloud backup > Check the date from Last successful iCloud backup.

Note: Proceed to the next steps only if the iCloud backup date is earlier than the date the contacts were deleted.

If a suitable backup is available, go to settings > General > Reset to default > tap Erase all content and settings Possibility.

Tap on the confirmation pop-up Delete Iphone confirm.

After all data is erased, the iPhone will boot to the “Hello” screen. Slide to the right to start setting up your iPhone.

Follow the next few on-screen instructions until you reach the Apps & Data screen. Make your selection on this screen Restore from iCloud backup Possibility.

If prompted, sign in to your iCloud account by typing AppleID, password and tap Next. On the next screen, select the iCloud backup you want to restore your iPhone from.

Once the recovery process is complete, you should find all the deleted contacts back on your device.

3. Recover deleted messages on Mac using Finder

If you have previously downloaded iPhone backup to Mac, you should be able to recover deleted contacts by restoring iPhone from the backup file available on your MacBook.

Note: You need to turn off Find My iPhone to use this method.

Connect iPhone to Mac > click on the Finder icon and choose yours iPhone in the left pane. In the right pane, scroll down to the Backups section and click Restore Backup Button.

In the pop-up window, select the iPhone backup as available on your Mac and click the Restore Button.

Once the recovery process is complete, you should find deleted contacts back on your device.

3. Recover deleted messages with iTunes on Windows computer

Similarly, if you have downloaded a backup of iPhone to Windows computer, you should be able to recover deleted contacts by restoring iPhone from the backup file available on your computer.

Note: You need to disable Find My iPhone to restore iPhone using iTunes.

Connect iPhone to computer > open iTunes (if it didn’t start automatically) and click the phone Icon as it appears on your computer screen.

Then click on the summary tab in the left pane. In the right pane, click Restore iPhone Button located under the Manual Backup and Restore section.

In the pop-up window, select the fuse of the iPhone you want to use for the restore process and click the Restore Button.

Wait for the backup process to complete. After that, you should find deleted contacts back on your device.
