How to password protect WhatsApp on Android phone or tablet

In general, most people’s WhatsApp account is flooded with private conversations and pictures that shouldn’t be seen by others. In this article, we will show you the steps to password protect WhatsApp on your Android phone or tablet.

Why protect WhatsApp account with password

Protecting WhatsApp account with a password is a good option if you don’t want to use a lock screen password on your Android phone.

Even if you have lock screen password on your Android phone, if one of your friends or family member needs to borrow your Android phone and you give your phone to them, your WhatsApp conversations, photos and videos can be exposed.

Even if someone borrows your Android phone for just a few minutes and the person is sitting right in front of you, you will still feel nervous while your Android phone is in someone else’s hands.

Luckily, there are many apps on the Google Play Store to help you password protect WhatsApp on your Android phone or tablet.

Follow the steps below to password protect WhatsApp on your Android phone using an app called AppLock by DoMobile.

1. Open Google play store on your Android phone or tablet and search for AppLock

2. From the search results, tap AppLock by DoMobile, which should be at the top of the search results (see image below)

3. On the next screen, tap To install button and then tap Accept to install the app on your Android phone.

4. open that AppLock App on your Android phone.

5. Next you will be asked to draw one Unlock pattern.

6. On the next screen, draw the same thing Unlock pattern again for confirmation.

Note: The unlock pattern you draw will be used to password protect WhatsApp on your Android phone.

7. Next you will be asked to enter a security email. Enter a Security Email and tap the Save on computer button

8th. Next, you will be taken to the app’s home screen. On this screen, scroll down and tap Whatsapp from the list of apps you want to protect on your Android phone (see image below).

9. You will see a pop-up window asking you to grant AppLock usage access. Tap on To allow to switch to the next screen (see image below)

10 On the next screen, provide usage access for AppLock by sliding the switch next to AppLock to On Position.

From now on, anyone trying to access WhatsApp on your Android phone will have to enter the unlock pattern you set up in the steps above.

Prevent uninstallation of AppLock

Even if you have protected WhatsApp on your Android phone with AppLock, anyone can still access WhatsApp on your phone by simply uninstalling the AppLock app.

To prevent this possibility, you can either hide AppLock from your Android phone’s home screen or prevent apps from being uninstalled on your Android phone by following the steps below.

1. Open AppLock App on your Android phone or tablet.

2. Next, tap the Privacy tab and then tap settings, Google play store and Install/Uninstall Options on the privacy screen (see image above)

Once you enable AppLock for Settings, Play Store and Install/Uninstall option on privacy screen, no one can install or uninstall apps on your Android phone or change settings on your Android phone without entering AppLock password.

Hide AppLock from the home screen

Another option is to hide AppLock from your home screen. While this doesn’t prevent users from going into settings and uninstalling the app, it does prevent users from opening the app on their Android phone.

1. Open AppLock App on your Android phone or tablet.

2. Next, tap the Protect tab at the top of your screen, then tap magic. (See image below)

3. Tapping Magic opens a drop-down menu, tap Hide AppLock Option in drop down menu (see image above)

4. On the screen, turn Hide AppLock On Hide AppLock option (see image below)

Note: If you hide AppLock from your home screen, the only way to open the app is to visit it domobile.com/applock/

Change AppLock password

In case you are not a fan of pattern lock passwords, you can set up a numeric password for AppLock on your Android phone by following the steps below.

1. Open AppLock on your Android phone or tablet.

2. Next, tap the Protect tab and then tap security (See image below)

3. When you tap Security a drop down menu will open, tap unlock settings Option in drop down menu (see image above)

4. On the Unlock Settings screen, tap Password.

5. After tapping Password, you will be prompted to enter a numeric password. Enter password and confirm the password.

From now on you can use a numeric password for AppLock instead of using a pattern lock password.

Password Protection for WhatsApp on Android Phone with AppLock by Fotoable

While DoMobile’s AppLock is a great app, it may not work with some Android phones. In such a case, you can try to use Fotoable’s AppLock to password protect WhatsApp on your Android phone.

1. Open Google play store on your Android phone and search for AppLock.

2. Then tap AppLock by Fotoable in the search results that appear on your Android phone (see image below)

3. On the next screen, tap the green To install and follow the instructions to install the app on your device.

4. Once the app is installed, open the AppLock App on your Android phone.

5. Next, you will see a list of apps that have been pre-selected by the AppLock app for password protection. To add WhatsApp to this list, tap + button.

6. On the next screen, tap Whatsapp and then tap Save on computer button at the bottom of your screen (see image below)

7. Next, you will be taken back to the app’s home screen. On the home screen, tap Apply now button (see image below).

8th. The next screen will ask you to draw a lock pattern and confirm the lock pattern

9. On the next screen, tap Apps with usage access (See image below)

10 On the Usage Access screen, turn on AppLock Usage Access by sliding the switch next to AppLock to ON Position (see picture below)

After granting usage access to AppLock, you will see that WhatsApp is now password protected.

Change the password on AppLock from Fotoable

If necessary, you can always change AppLock password by following the steps below.

1. Open AppLock on your Android phone and tap 3 lines icon in the top left corner of your screen.

2. From the drop-down menu, tap settings (See image below)

4. On the next screen, enter yours New Password and re-enter the password to confirm
