Change the desktop background in Windows 10
When you set up a new computer, it has the blue Windows 10 desktop background that most users are familiar with.
While the default Windows 10 blue wallpaper is good to look at, many users want to try different wallpapers, colors, or their favorite photos as desktop backgrounds on their computers.
Therefore, below we provide the steps to change the desktop background to any color, wallpaper or photo in Windows 10.
1. Change desktop wallpaper
Windows 10 comes with its own set of desktop wallpapers that you can use to change the desktop background on your computer
1. Click on that Start button and click settings Start menu icon.
2. On the settings screen, click personalization Tab.
3. On the next screen, click background (1) in the left pane. In the right pane, click the Arrow down (2) under the Background section and select picture as background type.
4. In the “Choose your picture” section, you will see other wallpapers that are available on your computer. Choose wallpaper (3) you want to set as the new desktop wallpaper on your computer.
Under Choose a fit (4) Section allows you to customize the image by choosing from Fit, Fill, Stretch and other available options.
2. Change desktop wallpaper to solid color
Instead of displaying images, some users want to display solid color as the desktop background on their computer.
Color as desktop wallpaper consumes fewer resources and makes desktop icons prominent and easy to find.
1. Open settings > click on the personalization Tab.
2. On the next screen, click background (1) in the left pane. Select in the right pane Plain (2) as background type.
3. Under “Choose your background color” you can choose from 24 available colours or create a custom color of your choice.
3. Change desktop background to slideshow
1. Go to settings > personalization > click background (1) in the left pane. Select in the right pane slide show (2) as background type and click on the Browse (3) Button.
2. On the next screen, select the folder with photos you want to include in the slideshow.
After selecting photos, you can set the photo switching frequency for the slideshow by selecting the one you want Period under change picture every (4) section (see image in point 1 above).
You can set the slide show to change every 1 minute, 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 6 hours or 1 day.
4. Set any photo as desktop background
1. Go to settings > personalization > click background (1) in the left pane. Select in the right pane Picture 2) as background type and click on the Browse (3) Button.
2. On the next screen, select the photo you want to set as the desktop background on your computer.
3. After selecting the wallpaper, you may need to adjust the layout of the wallpaper by clicking Arrow down (4) in the “Choose a Fit” section and choose from the options below.
- To fill: The desktop background image fills the desktop (the image can be enlarged or reduced)
- Fit: The image will be the same size
- Tile: The image is repeated to fill the entire desktop
- Stretch: Similar to fill, the image is stretched to fit the desktop
- Center: The image is placed in the center of the desktop
- Span: The image spans the desktop

5. Right-click to set any photo as desktop wallpaper
Another cool feature in Windows 10 is that you can set any photo that is on your computer as your desktop wallpaper by simply right-clicking on it.
1. Right click on the photo you want to set as the desktop background on your computer and select it Set as desktop background option in the right-click menu.
2. The selected photo will appear as the desktop wallpaper on your computer.
