The 2021/22 season got off to a pretty good start for Gabe Vincent, the hero of the first victory in the history of the Nigerian national team against Team USA, in a friendly match in preparation for the Olympics. It ended almost as well as Miami went a long way in getting back to the NBA Finals.
In the meantime, Gabe Vincent was lucky enough to show what he had in his belly and was able to give himself a place in Erik Spoelstra’s rotation, bringing quality to outside shooting, creation and an alternative. reliable to Kyle Lowry in position 1 or back shooter, alongside a Tyler Herro for example.
After spending two years as an incubator, he said he was happy to finally be able to show off this season, as he told his end-of-season interview with the press.
“I think I’ve shown that I can be a rotating player in this league. Of course, I would like to play every game, with as much playing time as possible, but it doesn’t work that way. “he said.
More and more caps
His greatest pride is that he was able to shine in overcoming function, adding creation to his first quality as a shooter.
“Shooting is something that has never really bothered me since the beginning of my career. I’ve been doing this my whole life, and the numbers always balance out. But I was able to create more in attack, evolve more into a role-playing role, and show that I could really play that role. It’s a really fun experience and challenge for me. “, he added. “It simply came to our notice then. I wore a lot of different caps this year, so to speak. Now it’s about figuring out which cap works best for me. I like to be valued, to be on the field as much as possible. So if you have to wear different caps to get there, I will wear the right one ”.
The next cap may be the evolution of his shooting range. While he hopes to continue to progress on all fronts, mid-range shooting will be his main focus this summer, on a well-deserved offseason for him, after a string of Olympics, regular season and playoffs.
“I think we’ve seen him a little bit more this season, mid-range shooting isn’t dead. Playing pick-and-roll is a shot that is often available to me. So if I’m more regular on that and I get to score, it might help me. And also be more regular as a shooter. That’s what got me there. The more regular I am, the more impact I would have on this side of the field. I would also like to continue to grow as a leader. ”
